Brandon designed and built Mix This! FTA with Bob Clearmountain after the Palisades fire took Bob’s home and studio. The private mix room is a finalist for the 2027 NAMM TEC Award for Studio Design.

The room’s dimensions were fixed, so every acoustic decision had to work inside a footprint that could not change. The existing Atmos listening room, which had seen only minimal treatment, was stripped to slab and studs and rebuilt from the structure out, starting overhead, where the ceiling was decoupled from the second floor above.

The diffusers were designed from real-world measurements and calculations and custom built for the room, paired with fabric-wrapped absorption in walnut frames against blue fabric walls, a slatted wood ceiling and warm, indirect light. Below, a trough cut into the slab carries the cable looms for a fully analog signal path to Bob’s SSL 4000 G+, heavily serviced before installation and modified since.

Every decision was measured against Bob’s style and workflow. The result is a room that works the way Bob does.

01

Architectural

A full strip to slab and studs, with the ceiling decoupled and isolated from the floor above. The layout was resolved within room dimensions that could not change.

02

Acoustic

Diffusion designed from real-world measurements and calculations and custom built for the room, paired with fabric-wrapped absorption in walnut frames.

03

Wiring

A trough cut into the slab carries the looms for a fully analog signal path to the SSL 4000 G+.
